The good stuff

That traffic light system is actually genius. Green means go, red means don’t bother. No reading long status messages, just glance and decide. I used it to skip the Sint-Annaveer ferry because the app showed it was closed due to maintenance. And the lift/escalator status? Super useful when you're dragging luggage or pushing a stroller. One time, I saw the escalator at the tunnel entrance was down - I took the stairs instead and avoided a full-on panic when I got there. Also, the news feed for each crossing point is oddly satisfying. You get quick alerts about closures or delays without needing to check multiple websites.

The not-so-good

It’s not exactly flashy. The UI is basic - like, “this app was built in 2015” basic. And yeah, it only works for Antwerp’s Scheldt crossings. If you’re anywhere else in Belgium, it’s useless. Also, the developer isn’t listed, and the app doesn’t have a version number or download count. That’s a bit sketchy, but so far it’s worked every time I’ve used it. No ads either, which is nice. Still, it feels like it hasn’t been touched in years. No dark mode, no offline maps. But hey, it does what it says on the tin.

Bottom line

If you’re walking or biking across the Scheldt in Antwerp, Slim over de Schelde for Android is worth the download. It’s free, straightforward, and honestly more reliable than most city transit apps. Not for everyone - only makes sense if you’re near that part of the river. But if you are, this thing is a quiet lifesaver. Give it a shot. You might not love it, but you’ll probably use it more than you think.
